Summer 2026 Updates | Writing Goals, Half-Hiatus Plans, And More

For many people, summer is a time for rest and relaxation or embarking on new adventures.

For me, on the other hand, it's a bit of a different story. I work at an escape room in a casino mall, situated in a property where those people looking for rest and relaxation or embarking on new adventures during the summer go. Needless to say, it gets hectic!

Summer means extended hours of operation. 2026 is my third summer working there, so I roughly know what to expect when it comes to writing around my shifts (both figuratively and literally).

It is, however, the first summer that I've been Supervisor. I'm still settling into the role, as it's only been official since early April. I've had a moderately more consistent schedule over the weeks since the promotion, but at the time of writing, I'm not 100% sure what my schedule will look like once we head into summer.

All I know is that balancing work and writing and life in general will be a little trickier for the next bit.

Longtime readers know what I'm about to say so allow me to cut to the chase: I'm taking a half-hiatus from blogging for the summer and will shift to posting on alternating weeks from June through August.

I started taking this half-hiatus a few summers back to keep burnout at bay. With my writing time becoming more limited, I want to prioritize my fiction WIPs (yes, plural, I'm back to working on two books again even though I said I wasn't gonna do that).

And as you may know, I started a YouTube channel earlier this year. I do think I can keep to the weekly upload pace on that front because sitting down to record a video typically doesn't take as long as writing a blog post and I like the idea of having a writing-related activity that's different from the act of writing itself. Hopefully that makes sense?

Circling back to the blog, this hiatus isn't a rigid thing. If something comes up and I just have to write a blog post about it, there's nothing stopping me from doing that. Really, it's about giving myself a little more wiggle room and flexibility during this crazy season. It's self-care. I'd rather hit the pause button on one writing thing than the emergency stop button on writing altogether.

My Summer 2026 Goals

  • Reach the 20% mark of Project Scrimmage (contemporary romance WIP)

  • Maybe finish another three chapters of A Tided Love (historical romance WIP)

...and YouTube is just going to do what it does because, truth be told, I don't have a set plan when it comes to videos. It's all ✨vibes✨ over there.

The blog will resume its regular weekly upload schedule come September. Until then, may this summer be as restful or as fruitful as you wish it to be.
